Summit High School is not just students and professional educators. Summit encompasses a community of people who give freely of their time and resources to prepare the next generation for leadership and contribution. It's a community that values education and strongly supports the critical institution of public schools.
We recognize each student as complex and unique. We take on the challenge of a standards-based environment while at the same time allowing each student to discover their own talents. We believe in numerous indicators beyond a standardized test to know that a student can demonstrate ingenuity, a capacity for hard work, the ability to work on a long term project, a commitment to the obligations of citizenship, and if they can maintain decent relationships with others. The deep aim of education is to help students become the architects of their own education, a process that involves curriculum, opportunities to learn, and the quality of teaching and assessment that reflects our comprehensive expectations of students.
We have a wonderful school, but until every student achieves at extraordinary levels our work will not be done. The basis for our work will be to create trust between students and adults through forming significant relationships and then to press
hard for academic achievement. Relationship and learning go hand in hand.
