Sustainability and Bend-La Pine Schools

Sustainability is defined as "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." It considers the interrelationship of economic, social and environmental factors that protect and enhance present and future quality of life.
Bend-La Pine Schools is committed to sustainability and has adopted a Sustainability Administrative Regulation and a Sustainability Plan to guide our efforts in the near and long term.

Bend-La Pine Schools has an exciting new waste and energy conservation program called W.E. Reduce! Schools that sign up and work to reduce waste and conserve energy will receive cash awards each trimester. The goals of the program are to reduce energy use and waste generation within Bend-La Pine schools, save money, and educate staff and students about these important goals of the Bend-La Pine Sustainability Plan. Did you know that Bend-La Pine Schools has approximately 2.5 million square feet spread over 27 schools and five support facilities? Seemingly small efforts result in huge energy, waste and financial savings.

Since these companies use different materials recovery facilities for their recycling, they accept different items. Please see the posters for what is considered recycling and what is considered trash to your school's garbage/recycling company.
