Superintendent's Message

Welcome to Bend-La Pine Schools

This year marks my 41st in education, and yet I find myself as excited about the beginning of this school year as I have ever been. Student and staff achievement are at an all-time high, and I could not be more proud. Our schools are central to what makes the communities of Bend, La Pine and Sunriver so extraordinary.

I invite you to visit your child's classroom this year.  While you are there you will see teachers actively engaging students with new and inventive ways to learn.  Teachers are 'flipping' their classrooms and delivering dynamic, innovative classroom instruction.  Everywhere you look, educators are actively engaging and connecting students to the world around them.

From nutrition services to the business office to transportation and maintenance, our operations professionals constantly innovate, deliver exceptional service, look for new ways to stretch resources and find cost savings that redirect every available dollar to the classroom.

Our students are making a splash academically, artistically and athletically in Oregon and across the country.  Students garnered a myriad of honors last year in the form of more than $6 million in college scholarships, multiple Scholastic Art and Writing Awards National Gold Medal winners, and dozens of athletic and activities state championship titles.

Our Strategic Plan continues to support early literacy, maintain high
academic accountability, encourage use of instructional technology to
boost student learning, and ensure student access to extracurricular
activities. We continue our quest to provide a "world class" education
to all of our students and earn the distinction of "The best school
district in Oregon."

The importance of maximizing instructional time and maintaining
continuity of instruction remains at the top of our priority list.  We are
unwavering in our efforts to continue to provide one of the longest
school year in the State of Oregon and to maintain a full five-day
instructional week.  Preparation of our students for their next step
after graduation continues to receive high marks, and students are
demonstrating significant success.

A strong school system is essential to a healthy community. Together
we will continue the tradition of excellence at Bend-La Pine Schools
and forge new paths to achievement.

It is our privilege to teach your child and it is a responsibility we take
very seriously.  We thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
